Capital Prayer Alert

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol’s thoughts with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. — Gary

Washington in August is the epitome of summer — sultry days, thunderstorms in the afternoon, cicadas singing at night, Congress out of session, more reasonable traffic patterns and, this year, heightened political discussions as the nation moves to within months of the first caucus and primary events starting in January.

Of course, the long-game ahead is the presidential race in November 2016. And with that election will come the end of the Obama Administration.

Presidents like to build a legacy — those programs or decisions which they hope will frame and distinguish their presidency for future generations. LBJ’s Great Society, Nixon’s opening to China, Reagan’s decisions that led to the fall of the Soviet Union.

I suspect Barack Obama sees his legacy as Obamacare and the nuclear deal with Iran. We are stuck with the first, at least for the foreseeable future, though it has never been popular with the American people.

As for the second item, now is the time to make your voice heard.

Quiet congressional office buildings in Washington mean that senators and representatives are spending time in their states or districts. Some are holding town hall meetings or working in their district office. All are waiting to hear from their constituents. The House and Senate will vote on the Iranian nuclear deal in September. Let them hear your voice in the next three weeks!

I was part of the Christians United For Israel lobbying effort on Capitol Hill the morning that the deal was first announced. I can’t tell you the pride I felt as I walked the halls of Congress and saw thousands of CUFI members doing the same thing.

That morning we had only the outline of the deal. But even in those early hours, the contents of the deal were drawing scrutiny and many reservations. In the ensuing weeks, the more we have learned about the deal and the shadowy side agreements, the more concern we should have.

Senators and representatives need to hear from you!

First, please visit CUFI.org for the best arguments against the deal.

Then click here to look up contact information for your representative and senators. Enter your zip code where prompted.

Call your public servants in Congress and firmly, but respectfully, request that they oppose the Iranian nuclear deal. Remind them that their children and grandchildren and yours will live with the consequences of this vote for decades to come.

There you have it. We need you to get involved. Put this on your “to do” list right now. The only chance we have to stop this bad deal is to inundate the offices of our elected officials until the vote is held. There is much to do and those efforts should be bathed in prayer.

First, inform yourself and become comfortable with the arguments you feel are most effective. Then, find a quiet space and ask God to bless your efforts and give you wisdom as you take your case to your elected officials. And, pray that those on the receiving end of your request will be open to hearing your message.

After serving in the United States Navy for 22 years I retired from the service late in 1991. Having always loved the southwest, shortly after retiring, I moved to the Albuquerque area where I have resided since. Initially I worked as a contractor for approximately 6 years doing cable construction work. That becoming a little dangerous, at an elevated age, I moved into the retail store management environment managing convenience stores for roughly 16 years. With several disabilities, I am now fully retired and am getting more involved with helping Pastor Dewey & Pastor Paul with their operations at FGGAM which pleases my heart greatly as it truly is - "For God's Glory Alone". I met my precious wife Sandy here in Albuquerque and we have been extremely happily married for 18 years and I am the very proud father to Sandy's wonderful children, Tiana, our daughter, Ryan & Ross, our two sons, and proud grandparents to 5 wonderful grandchildren. We attend Christ Full Deliverance Ministries in Rio Rancho which is lead by Pastor's Marty & Paulette Cooper along with Elder Mable Lopez as regular members. Most of my time is now spent split between my family, my church & helping the Pastors by writing here on the FGGAM website and doing everything I can to support this fantastic ministry in the service of our Lord. Praise to GOD & GOD Bless to ALL! UPDATED 2021: Rick and Sandy moved to Florida a few years ago. We adore them and we pray for Rick as he misses Sandy so very, very much!
