Adultery is in the news or should I say the exposure of adultery as the marital affair website, Ashley Madison has had it’s membership website hacked and now the hackers are releasing the names of millions of people looking to be unfaithful to their spouses.

With the slogan, “You only live once, have an affair” Ashley Madison has attracted some 35 million members to have extramarital affairs. Hundreds of U.S. government employees including some with sensitive jobs in the White House, Congress and law enforcement agencies used Internet connections in their federal offices to access and pay membership fees to the cheating website.

Members included workers at more than two dozen Obama administration agencies, including the departments of State, Defense, Justice, Energy, Treasury, Transportation and Homeland Security. Others came from House or Senate computer networks.

In the case of the defense department, adultery is a crime and punishable by the Uniform Code of Military justice and Secretary Ash Carter indicated that they will pursue charges.

The bible tells us that our sin will find us out. We are in the season when individuals and nations have a choice to deal with their sin before judgment is rendered by the Lord. The children of Israel were pleading with the Lord over the sin of the golden calf as Moses sought the Lord for mercy and asked that Israel be restored as God’s people.

This brings us once again to the coming end of the Shemitah and God’s judgment of nations. You see we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, but we are also held accountable as a nation for our sin.

When millions of people choose to be unfaithful to their spouses and engage in sexual immorality, that has consequences. We should not fool ourselves, God is not mocked. You and I must deal with the sin that we commit, not allowing it to go unanswered, but rather deal with it openly.
