Hearing God’s Voice By Jeanne Theriault
God speaks to us through his word, our thoughts, our conversations with others and in our circumstances. How do we know that it is the voice of God that we are hearing? John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me. 2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.
God is all knowing Psalm 139:2-6 You know when I sit and when I rise, you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down you are familiar with all my ways. God will never direct us in anything that is against what he has taught or promised in his word. In order to be able to hear his voice we need to spend time daily with him in prayer, studying, meditating on his word. He will speak to his children through his word. We need to listen to God through the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 But the Counselor the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you . The Holy Spirit teaches us, guides us, and instructs us in all things, he is our helper and comforter. In order to hear from God we have to also know his character. The bible says that he’s Eternal Psalm 90:2 From everlasting to everlasting you are God. He’s unchangeable Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. He is righteous and just Psalm 11:7 For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice, upright men will see his face. He’s faithful Psalm 119:90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations, you established the earth and it endures. He’s truth Psalm 119:160 All your words are true, all your righteous laws are eternal. He’s Gracious Psalm 103:8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger abounding in love. God is love 1John 4:17 God is love whoever lives in love lives in God and God in him. Theses are just some of God’s characteristic. So when we know who God is and have a close relationship with him we can rest assure that he will speak to our hearts in whatever situation we face.
Isaiah 28:23 Listen and hear my voice pay attention and hear what I say
Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying This is the way walk in it.
Thank you Lord for your Holy Spirit our comforter and helper as we stay close to you in prayer and listen to your voice that you will lead and guide us in the direction you want us to go. You are faithful and true to your promises we give you thanks and praise!
