IDF planning for deep cuts

Gadi Eisenkot announced this week that the military is preparing to move forward with a massive program of reforms which will include deep cuts to several programs and a reorganization of others. The plan will include adoption of a range of recommendations from the General Staff entitled “Plan Gideon” after the Biblical Judge who began a campaign with 32,000 soldiers but was ordered by God to reduce his force to 300 before setting out to defeat the Midianites. The plan calls for the virtual elimination of the Home Front Command, making large cuts to the staff of the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv as well as other large military facilities and ancillary units such as   Behavioral Science, Military Censor and Military Rabbinate and to use the money saved on training and readiness for a smaller but, it is hoped, more effective combat force.
