Russia Fires Submarine Launched Missiles Into Syria

Reports emerged in Russian media late Tuesday that a Russian submarine sailing in the eastern Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday launched Kalibr cruise missiles into Syria. “We can say with absolute confidence that significant damage has been inflicted upon ammunition warehouses and a mine production plant, as well as the oil infrastructure,” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was quoted as telling President Vladimir Putin in a briefing. In related news, the UN Security Council on Tuesday refused to consider a motion tabled by Russia to discuss the deployment of Turkish troops into northern Iraq for the expressed purpose of battling the Islamic State terror militia.
