NM Legislature Prayer Alert Listen Now New Mexico House Bill 55 proposed by Reps. David Gallegos of Eunice and Nora Espinoza of Roswell was shot down at the Legislature. It did not even make it out of the gate, as it came under fire from many. Here is what Gallegos and Espinoza where attempting:
Representatives David Gallegos (R, Lea County, Dist-61) and Nora Espinoza (pictured) (R, Chaves & Lincoln Counties, Dist-59) The bill amends the Human Rights Act to prohibit burdening the free exercise of religion and amends the New Mexico Religious Freedom Restoration Act to prevent any person or the state government from forcing a person of faith to provide goods or perform services that are in violation of that person’s faith.
It appears to me that they did not even get the support of their own party, at least not much. Nora said, “This bill is about respecting each other’s belief, period, not about hate.”
I know Nora, she was trying to bring a solution to a problem that we face. It did not get a fair hearing. There is no hate in the heart of Nora, I have known her for years, I have come to know her heart and soul of love for God’s people.
It looks like the days of having adult conversations and debates on the problems we face are gone. This is why the people’s business is not being done at the Roundhouse and in Congress.
New Mexico is in sad shape…..if wisdom had been prevailing, most of the problems the Legislature is facing this year would not be present. It is the fault of the Governor and the Legislature that they have failed to address the issues of everything from falling oil prices, (I have written and talked about this for years) budget crisis, violent crime, messed up Judicial system, failing education, child poverty, abortion, the death of rural communities and the list goes on and on…….
These folks whether it’s Bill Richardson or Martinez keep doing the same stupid things, because we as a state, never leave last place.
A major part of leadership is to foresee problems and deal with them before they become problems, that is true leadership.
I look at some of the Facebook posts the Legislators make, and they sure take a lot of pride in failure. For heaven’s sake these folks can’t even get the driver’s license issue figured out! Just plain stupid! Where did these folks go to school?
