Governor Susana Martinez Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Memory of Secretary Retta Ward
Santa Fe, NM — Today, Governor Susana Martinez issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in memory of New Mexico Department of Health Secretary Retta Ward, who recently passed away.
The text of the order is below:
EXECUTIVE ORDER 2016-02
FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF IN MEMORY OF SECRETARY RETTA WARD
WHEREAS, New Mexico Department of Health Cabinet Secretary Retta Ward passed away on March 3, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Secretary Ward served as a cabinet secretary since 2011, initially leading the Aging and Long-Term Services Department until her appointment as Department of Health secretary in January 2013; and
WHEREAS, Secretary Ward exhibited a tireless dedication to the people of New Mexico in working to make the state healthier; and
WHEREAS, Secretary Ward earned the respect of her colleagues and staff alike with her passion and quiet confidence in bringing people together to improve public health in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Secretary Ward is survived by her son Alec, daughter Lauren, brother Kenny, sisters Angie and Priscilla, and many other family and friends;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Susana Martinez, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in memory of Secretary Retta Ward’s dedicated service to the people of New Mexico. The thoughts and prayers of all New Mexicans are with Secretary Ward’s family and friends.
