I must say the last debate was by far the most informative one we’ve heard so far from the Republican candidates. I was impressed by their determination not to attack each other as they have in the past. It might have been too much too little, too late for some of them, but it was a refreshing change at least.
Some of us have been battling with the decision as to whether or not we could support Donald Trump if he becomes the nominee. After Ben Carson pulled out, I was really not sure what to do. Ted Cruz sounds appealing in some ways, but something about him doesn’t sit well with me. Really didn’t like Rubio’s treatment of Donald Trump during the last two debates, and Kasich was never a consideration for me.
I had hopes that Ben Carson would, by some miracle, get ahead and win the nomination knowing that all things are possible when God is in charge. I even wrote a post titled: The Tortoise and the Hair. Now the two have joined forces.
Knowing that Dr. Carson would not make a decision to endorse Trump without much prayer and consideration, I now feel like I can support him as well. The thing that impresses me most about Trump is his children. They have all become successful and respected in the business world, thanks to the leadership of their father. So we know he did something right. Though he comes off as rather brash and conceited at times, I feel like Dr. Carson said, there’s more than one side to Donald Trump.
He seems to me like someone who has made his fortune and is ready to step up and give back to the country he loves, by becoming President. We know he’s not doing it for the money as he said he doesn’t want to be paid. He’s already achieved fame through his TV show, so what ulterior motive could he have? I know many can come up with some, and already voiced them, but they are only opinions, and we all have those.
With all the negative things we hear and read about all the candidates, it is hard to know who, if anyone, we can trust. In the case of Donald Trump, we have heard from old classmates, old friends and family members as well as Pastors who believe he is exactly what our country needs. At this point, I am ready to prayerfully agree.
I’m not trying to influence anyone concerning how they vote, I just want to encourage all of you to make your own prayerful decision and do vote. This whole election has been enough to make many of us never want to get involved in politics in any way. Still, we have a responsibility as citizens and as Christians, to try to choose leaders who are concerned about what’s happening in our country and whom we feel will actually do something to turn things around before it’s too late.
Let’s pray for discernment and God’s will as we get closer to the time to vote. Pray for the safety of the candidates and their families as the protesters resort to violence at times. May this not escalate any further as we all work together to choose a leader. Pray that many will turn to Christ, our only hope and true leader…. who always has our best interest at heart.
