As our state, (Indiana) primary election nears, I’ve tried hard to make sure my vote will be in line with God’s will for our country and our people. With so many controversial and disturbing issues to fret over lately….as more and more unheard-of laws need to be passed….I find it hard at times to be optimistic about the future. Then, I hear good news from Franklin Graham’s Decision America Tour and I’m encouraged.
Of all the well-known evangelists, Franklin Graham has been the only one to take on the tremendous responsibility of encouraging God’s people to vote, get involved and turn our country back to God….one state at a time. Not only are believers turning out for these prayer meetings, others are attending as well and many accepting Christ as their Savior.
Early last year, as the Presidential race got underway, I became very concerned about the state of our nation and began to pray fervently for God’s guidance in this election. As I prayed, the Lord gave me a glimpse of what our country could be like if only we, His people, would stand up and speak up concerning our rights and religious freedom. Then I began to pray for revival….not just locally but nation-wide revival. I envisioned Christians everywhere getting excited and God once again being put first. It was time to leave the safety of our church buildings and bring the good news of Jesus Christ into the streets of America. I felt like the little girl in the movie, Oh God 2, where she writes ‘Think God’ on everything. He clearly had laid it on my heart to do something, but what could I do?
I wrote letters to our local churches encouraging them to hold revivals or a crusade for Christ. Soon I heard that an organization from Texas called Time to Revive was coming to Indiana, to our city, to set the groundwork for revival! They came and many were saved and awakened to the reality of the power in the name of Jesus! God had answered not only my prayers, but those of other Christians with the same concerns for our country and His church.
Not long after this, Franklin Graham announced his plans for his Decision America Tour…and my heart sang….God was answering another prayer….to send someone qualified to lead in our efforts to see revival. He not only sent someone….He sent His best….the son of Billy Graham. America’s evangelist!
The tour last visited Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas where as many as 8,000 people showed up to pray. This happens at every stop, and people are being saved, revived and encouraged. How great our Lord is, and how wonderfully He answers our prayers!
Let us all continue to pray, attend these meetings when we can, or simply take time out everyday to pray for our country. Let us not get discouraged, but look at all He’s done so far. “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”
The power in Jesus’ name is being revealed in America. States are making laws to protect our religious freedoms and are being met by opposition by small groups of non-believers. God tells us in His Word in 2 Thessalonians 3: 13: ….be not weary in well doing.
Let us stand firm and with His help, we can take our country back….to God!
