Tens of thousands of Israelis waving flags and singing songs descended on the capital Sunday to mark Jerusalem Day, the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the eastern neighborhoods of the city during the 1967 Six Days War. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “The idea of a divided, split, wounded city is one we will never return to. We will never abandon the Kotel and our ties to the Temple Mount will never be denied.”
