Milwaukee Update
After two days of rioting (not protesting) there was more order in Milwaukee last night after authorities belatedly instituted a curfew for teenagers.
From everything we know, including from statements by the liberal mayor of Milwaukee, the police shooting of an armed black criminal by a black officer was a legitimate use of force. Sadly, some liberal politicians are suggesting that the unrest in Milwaukee is evidence of “urgent work” that society must do “to rebuild trust between police and communities.”
That is disgusting moral equivalence that equates murderous thugs, who make inner cities unlivable, with the policemen of all races, who every day have to confront the failures of big city liberalism.
Too many of our political leaders are unwilling to condemn the hatred directed at the police and the growing racism on the left that is festering within parts of the Black Lives Matter movement, which by definition is built on a racist idea and a completely false narrative.
If you want more evidence of just how big of a problem we are facing, consider this: The Associated Press reports that radical communists from Chicago were stirring the pot in Milwaukee, and were “there to ‘support a revolution.'”
Police chief Ed Flynn said yesterday that members of the Revolutionary Communist Party “showed up and actually they’re the ones who started to cause problems.”
But it gets worse. Sherelle Smith, sister of Sylville Smith who was shot and killed by a Milwaukee police officer Saturday, told a local TV station that she doesn’t believe her brother was armed.
“If my brother did have his gun in his hand, why he didn’t shoot back?” Smith asked. “If he’s gonna go out, why not go out with a fight? Why not go out with a big bang?”
In other words, she knew her brother so well that she believes he would have taken out a cop on the way to being taken out himself. She’s telling us in a very direct way exactly what went through the mind of the black policeman who defended his own life!
Where Are Gaza’s Homes?
It has been two years since the last major conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. During the fighting, roughly 14,000 Palestinian homes were destroyed or so badly damaged that they were unlivable. To be clear, Hamas is responsible for that damage because it used residential neighborhoods as launching pads for attacks.
After the fighting ended, U.N. officials raised more than $250 million for reconstruction efforts. But according to a new report, as many as 70,000 Palestinians remain displaced, while “Just 200 homes have been completely rebuilt and the families returned.” Only 200 new homes in two years? How is that possible?
Well, Hamas is stealing construction materials meant for the people of Gaza. Instead of building homes, schools and hospitals, Hamas is building terror tunnels in order to literally and figuratively undermine the security of Israel.
In recent days, Israel has made two high-profile arrests of a World Vision manager and a United Nations Development Agency engineer accused of siphoning resources to Hamas. But, more importantly, Hamas is bragging about its terror tunnels.
At a funeral in January for seven Hamas tunnel diggers, Ismail Haniyeh proudly declared, “East of Gaza City, heroes are digging through rock and building tunnels, and to the west they are experimenting with rockets every day. The resistance continues on its path of liberation of the land.”
