I will Give You Rest By Jeanne Theriault
Matthew 11:28 Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.
Have you ever been in a place where you are discouraged and depress, so overwhelmed with life and by your circumstances. As you surrender all to Jesus that’s when he comes to us and invites us to lay all of our burdens down. Scriptures says take my yoke which means that Jesus carries the bulk of the burden. Jesus only gives us what we can carry. Being yoked with Jesus means that we are doing what Jesus wants us to do .
Jesus does not call us to do things for him, but to love, serve, obey, to learn from him. When we are with him we can feel his love and the power of the Holy Spirit work in our lives. We have hope that comes from faith in an all powerful loving and caring God.
God has promised a glorious rest that includes peace and security for our souls. We should have a life full of joy and victory without fear quilt or condemnation.
No generation of believers ever walked fully in this blessed promise Why? It is because of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:8 Today if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion during the time of testing in the desert, 9 where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did . 10 That is why I was angry with that generation and I said their hearts are always going astray and they have not known my ways. 11 So I declare on oath in my anger They shall never enter in my rest.
Because of unbelief God’s people go through doubt, fear, restlessness. In Hebrews 3:19 we find this glorious life of faith still unclaimed.
Isaiah 30:15 In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.
Exodus 33;14 And he said my presence shall go with you and I will give you rest.
In order to be able to rest in him first we need to repent of the sin of unbelief. Then we can rest in Him in quietness and trust will be our strength. Then in His strength , his presence will be with us and in his presence we can rest having that assurance that he is there for us. God will never let us down all he wants from us is to love him, honor him, trust him, have faith in him, for he is a loving God just waiting for us to reach out to him , Oh how he longs for the day that his people would have faith in him. In the book of Genesis here we read a story of when God saved the Israelites from Pharaoh they saw the hand of God with the ten plaques , and the Passover on how God protected them , the opening of the red sea, and the pillar of cloud and fire. How awesome is that , you would think that after they have seen the hand of God that they would of been convince that God is real. But no instead they built a golden calf, for there hearts were harden and they forgot what God had done for them.
Are your hearts harden, have you forgot what God has done for you in the past? Don’t allow your heart to go astray but allow God into your life and he will give you rest for your soul. No matter what you go through you do not have to carry it.
Matthew 11:28 Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Lord a surrender all to you for you are the carrier of all of our burdens. As we enter into your rest you will surround us with your presence, for in quietness and trust is our strength. Thank you Lord.
