Blueberry Pancakes and Forgiveness
By: Angel L. Murchison
This morning I went to my daughter’s home to visit and make blueberry pancakes for my two grandsons Mason and Evan. Of course Grandma loves blueberry pancakes too. I sat Evan in his high chair and he ate almost two pancakes himself along with some fruit. That’s a bit for a fifteen month old. He picked the blueberries out and rolled them and squeezed them before putting them in his mouth. I laughed at the tip of his fingers as they are now stained blue. I washed them diligently with soap and water but the stain remains.
I couldn’t help but think of the stain sin has on our lives. Some people think that sin doesn’t cost them anything but oh how I wish they knew the truth. Sin is costly; it ruins lives, families and leaves its stain on the journey. Even when the sin isn’t your own, someone else’s sin can cost you dearly.
There is however the good news of Jesus Christ, the good news that is almost too good to be true…but it really is. Jesus paid the price, his very life that we may have the victory. Simply by coming to him and confessing our sin and asking him to forgive us, he will grant a new beginning. Isn’t that a loving heavenly Father? You don’t have to stay trapped in the sin that has a grip on you. Today Jesus will show you a way of escape; he will show you the road to victory or he himself will bring you the victory. No stain left on your hands, for he has taken it all upon himself.
The consequences of sin are different. Relationships may not be restored, the memory of the day doesn’t quickly fade and the wounds that were inflicted may need time to heal. The words that were spoken, the lies that were told, may take a journey that requires grace, strength and healing from the creator. Whether the sin was yours or someone else’s sin has affected you, there is hope for full recovery. Oh the wonderful cross, Oh his love for mankind.
After our blueberry pancakes Mason inquired if we could watch a movie. He picked a movie from his box of movies and the three of us sat down to watch it. Somehow I only remember the part of Christmas and forgiveness. It was a movie his parents purchased on a family vacation to Santa’s Village in New Hampshire this past summer. In my mind I still can see the tree, the bright star and the little boy singing Christmas is About Forgiveness. Funny the bible says a child shall lead them. I found myself checking my own heart and inquiring of the Lord if I had any unforgiveness lurking in my heart. Every time it showed that scene I found myself letting go of a hurt that was recently inflicted. I chose to forgive.
Today choose to confess your sin and find your victory or journey to victory. Today choose to forgive, today choose to ask Christ the Healer to make you whole again. It doesn’t make what’s happened right, it just makes you free. Today choose to accept his grace, his strength and his healing. Today let the Lord touch your heart and let your face shine like the star. Forgiveness has been given and forgiveness now extended. Can you still hear it, Christmas is about Forgiveness.
Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
