Have you ever felt desperate for a touch from God? I admit there are times I desire that God move and change the circumstances in my life. We can sit on the road side and cry out, “Jesus have mercy on me!” That’s what the blind men who sat on the side of the road did. And of course, Jesus had mercy on them and healed them. (See Matthew 20:29-34)
Yet there are times it seems like Jesus is not going to come down our road. That’s when we need to get up and go find Him. In Mark 5 we read about the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years. She heard Jesus was in town, so she garnered up any strength she could muster to go find Him.
For 12 years this woman saw doctor after doctor with no improvement. Instead, she continually got worse. But then something popped into her mind.
“For she thought to herself, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed’” (Mark 5:28 NLT).
When we are desperate, we act differently. I can only imagine that she was running on pure adrenaline at the thought if she could touch Jesus’ robe that she would be healed.
In studying this passage, I looked up the Greek word for “touch.” According to the Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, Third Edition (BDAG), touched means “take hold of, hold; cling to.”
Now I get a different picture in my mind. She grabbed hold of Jesus’ robe until the power left Him and she could feel the healing in her body—immediately.
Many of us may have circumstances that we need the power of Jesus’ healing.
- Illnesses
- Relationships
- Finances
- Emotional distress
So how do we grab hold of Jesus? What does that look like for us now that He is sitting at the right hand of the Father?
Let’s look at John 1:1 and 1:14.
“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1 NLT).
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son” (John 1:14 NLT).
In these two passages we see that Jesus is the Word of God and the Word of God is Jesus. These two are inseparable.
We must realize that Jesus, who is the Word, is always working on our behalf. And that the Word of God, Jesus, never fails.
So to grab ahold of Jesus, we must grab ahold of the Word of God. In order to grab ahold of the Word of God…
- Set aside time daily to read the Word
- Memorize Scripture
- Post Scripture around your house
- Speak the Word of God to your circumstances
Yes, the woman felt the power flow into her and heal her immediately. It is wonderful to hear testimony about how God sends the answer immediately. However, if you do not feel it immediately, do not stop. Do not quit. The Word of God—Jesus—is always working on your behalf. Grab ahold of Jesus and do not let go!
