God Remembers Rachel

Jean Bundas

Then God remembered Rachel; He listened to her and opened her womb. (Genesis 30:22 NIV)

My heart ached for my friend. She wanted so desperately to have a baby. She and her husband had been trying to conceive for several years now. Each passing month only seemed to fill her heart with more disappointment. She knew God could perform a miracle but her faith was beginning to waver.

When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady till sunset. (Exodus 17:12 NIV)

A group of us worked with the teens in our church. One night after youth service, we felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to join with this couple and lift up in prayer their desire to have a child.

We joined hands and asked God for a miracle.

That was 31 years ago; I remember this clearly because that is the age of my youngest daughter. God not only blessed our friend with a child – and another one after that! – but He also blessed all of us who had joined together to pray.

He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.” (Luke 17:6 NIV)

Three years after our babies were born, I was working at a daycare. One of the teachers there had been trying to get pregnant for eight years. I shared the story of how we had prayed for my friend and she had become pregnant. The teacher asked if I would pray with her. We bowed our heads in the hallway of the school and I asked God for a miracle.

A few months later, the teacher walked into the school with a huge smile on her face. She was going to have a baby!

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22 NIV)

A few years later, our family went to work at an orphanage in Florida. We took a group of children – three girls and three boys – from the orphanage on a trip to Michigan. The girls and I stayed at the home of a very nice young couple from one of the churches we were visiting.

The couple had a nursery all decorated and ready but no baby to fill it. They had been trying for years to conceive. I shared the testimonies of what God had done in the past. The woman asked if we would pray for her. We closed our eyes and one by one the girls began to cry out to God for a miracle. Their prayers were simple but full of faith.

A year later, we moved our family back to Michigan. My husband and I ran into that couple one day and guess what? They were pushing their little daughter in a stroller. Praise God for His answer to prayer!

Perhaps you are waiting on God for an answer to prayer… do not give up! Be encouraged to press-in and believe. If your arms have grown weary, call on those around you to help stand in the gap. God is faithful. He has not forgotten you.

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You have heard our cries and You are faithful to answer. Strengthen those who have grown weary, cause faith to rise up within them. We trust You and ask You to bring forth miracles in the mighty name of Jesus. I pray that You will “remember those who desire children and open up their womb today” just as You did in the Bible on Rachel’s behalf. Thank You, Jesus! Amen.

I felt in the my heart that there is someone out there that needed this. If you have grown weary and you need someone to pray and believe along with you, please feel free to post your request to this article, or contact me via email, jeanbundas22@gmail.com. I would love to join my faith along with yours to pray.
