Tensions Rising in Gaza Amidst Electricity Shortage
Potential unrest is brewing the Gaza Strip, ruled by the Islamist terror militia Hamas, over electricity shortages which have persisted for several weeks, growing more acute in recent days. Residents are struggling to heat their homes in the middle of an unusually cold winter, as Palestinian Authority officials blame Hamas and the international community for failing to pay for the fuel needed to run the Strip’s sole electrical plant. Hamas has in turn blamed the PA for refusing to lift taxes on imported fuel which make running the plant so expensive.
