“Oh, what a world! What a world!” (The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz–1939)
What a world, indeed, we are now living in a fast changing and confusing world, which, often causes one to scratch his head, as it just makes no sense at all. Right here at home we are told daily about natural disasters, acts of violence, hate crimes, and even terror confrontations. We watch these special news reports, searching for explanations behind all the madness, where the fault lies, and perhaps how we make a difference. As Bible believing Christians, we know the fault points back to the fall of man, and, we also know that believers are expected to trust God, live in and share His love, and pray.
Philippians 4:6 (KJV) says, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Another translation says, “Do not be anxious about anything.” With this in mind, I offer this prayer for our nation’s Birthday…
Heavenly Father, it is all about You. We are grateful and praise You, Lord, for Your goodness, mercy, and blessings to our nation, these United States of America. Any good the we have, or are, has come from You. We, who believe, are comforted with the knowledge that You alone are our Lord and Savior, and ultimately, Sovereign over life. Because we are facing these unclear and frightening times in our nation, we ask You, Lord, to come near to us. Touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders, by Your Holy Spirit, and give them wisdom to know what is right, and the audacity to act accordingly. We entrust our nation to Your loving care, Lord. Pour out Your Light and Your Truth to direct us in our ways so we may seek Your face of forgiveness and will for our nation, while impacting the world for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
