If you’ve been seeing photos of giraffes pop up as your Facebook friends’ profile pictures, it’s not for some “giraffe appreciation month” you’re missing out on.
It’s actually part of a Facebook game — or rather, a riddle — that when answered incorrectly requires the user to switch their profile picture to one of the long-necked animal.
The viral Great Giraffe Challenge was launched last week by YouTube user Andrew Strugnell, who asked participants to message him the answer to a riddle.
“The deal is I give you a riddle. You get it right you get to keep your profile pic. You get it wrong and you change your profile pic to a Giraffe for the next three days,” Strugnell wrote.
Here’s the riddle (spoiler warning: the answer is at the end of this article):
It’s 3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, it’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese.
What is the first thing you open?
If you don’t want to send Strugnell a message and wait for a response, you can get an instant answer at The Great Giraffe Challenge website.
Changing a profile picture to one of a giraffe is up to each user to do themselves — it doesn’t happen automatically.
The riddle’s answer: the door. But apparently “your eyes” is acceptable too.
