Baseball, like many team sports, is beloved in part because of the unity it brings to our nation’s communities. Poet Walt Whitman once wrote, “I see great things in baseball. It’s our game–the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism.

What a World Series!!! WOW! Albuquerque native Alex Bregman is in the spotlight, a shining star for Albuquerque in the World Series playing for the Astros! Bregman had the game winning hit the other night! Albuquerque has much to cheer about in this series! This is a shot in the arm of good news that we need here in the city, leave it to the national pastime to give us good news!

With Albuquerque having once been the home of the Albuquerque Dukes for years, the Dodgers Triple A team, many are cheering for the Dodgers. I loved the Dukes, but I’m still working on my love for the “Topes”, but too many great memories of Dukes GM Pat McKernan and so on…..Pat was one of the first to welcome me to the Duke City in 1995 when we moved here. He knew my friends from the Minnesota Twins front office.

Gotta remind the world that ABQ native Catcher/LF/IB/DH Mitch Garver is on the Twins roster! Great future with the Twins!!!

But how about that Alex Bregman!!!!!! ABQ Journal Story

Also here is a Facebook post by Marty Saiz long-time ABQ sports fan.

What an unbelievable and fun World Series game to watch last night. Albuquerque’s Alex Bregman proving he is a big-time player hitting in the winning run in the 10th inning. Alex has been playing awesome in the field and making keys hits and scoring runs for the Astros. I know his parents, Sam Bregman and Jackie De Oliveira Bregman were jumping up and down throughout the game and so proud of their son. This was fun because of all the key hits, especially all the home runs. Neither team wanted to lose.
On the other hand, it was poorly managed in the late inning by both teams. Both managers were stubborn with their bullpen. The Astros stayed away from Kenny Giles, and instead had Chris Devenski come out for the ninth and allowed “three” runs to send this game to the bottom of the ninth tied 12-12… that was a great move??? The Dodgers bring in Brandon Morrow in the 7th inning. Morrow had been a reliable reliever for the Dodgers all postseason, but pitching on a third consecutive day for the first time in his career, in 7 pitches allowed 2 home runs, double and single to the Astros. Game 6 is going to fun because the teams have been so unpredictable especially on the pitching side. GO ALEX! GO KENNY! GO ASTROS!!!

I love the great game of baseball, my friend, the legendary newsman Marv Boone said to me one day, “Dewey, you know that God created baseball right?” I said,”Oh?” Marv replied, “Yes, it is in the Bible, “In the Big-Inning…….”

For years the great game of Baseball has brought America a breath of fresh air……today we celebrate the great American game that God created…

Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is. Bob Feller
