I first had the pleasure of meeting Pastor Dewey Moede in the spring of 2017 when I was interviewing for a sales position at Christian radio station WFRN in Elkhart, IN. (Dewey is a consultant for Christian Radio WFRN and a longtime family friend of ownership) Upon earning the job, Dewey became a mentor to me not only in in radio sales, but more importantly in life. I found Dewey to be someone with compassion, sensitivity, warmth, and love; I could always turn to Dewey for not only professional advice but guidance and counseling in my quest for knowledge of Christ and implementing God’s will. From discussing scriptures to conversing about life in general, Dewey was vital to not only maintaining but expanding my faith as I continued my recovery from drug addiction.
I have been in recovery for over a decade from drug addiction. My use of cocaine and other drugs for over a decade had ruined my entire life and every relationship that I had ever had; my family would not even speak to me. My faith in Jesus Christ was the most important element in my sobriety as I grew to be a responsible, accountable adult. Because I have learned to do “the next right thing ” through sobriety, today I am the caretaker for my parents as their health is poor. I regularly attend church and counsel young men who are going through similar trials and tribulations with drugs. Nothing makes me feel better than when I can introduce a young man to Jesus and watch him get sober, repair his family, and become a responsible adult man in society,
Pastor Moede and his organization For God’s Glory Alone Ministries (FGGAM) came into my life just when I was realizing how important an influence that I can be on these young men. Dewey proved to be the mentor that I needed to push me in that direction and be of service. While meeting Dewey through the radio station just at the right time may seem coincidental, I have learned that through God “nothing happens by mistake.” Dewey has continued to be a mentor and friend as I have moved on from WFRN to focus on my MBA. He is always there to discuss scriptures, life, “doing the next right thing,” and being responsible; he recently wrote me a letter of recommendation to expunge my criminal record as my sobriety journey continues. Dewey consistently calls me to offer encouragement and advice.
As Dewey takes his ministry on the road from church to church, he is influencing many people in his tireless effort to spread The Word. This takes a ton of work and effort to travel like this, but Dewey sacrifices abundantly to be a positive influence on others; I myself am a much better man for knowing Dewey and FGGAM. As I continue my road to recovery and my faith strengthens, I am constantly reminded of Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
