Carlsbad, NM: After concerns about a controversial abortion doctor, Dr. Leah Torres listed as an employee for the Pecos Valley Physician group surfaced last week, the supervising organization, Carlsbad Medical Center announced today, in a
statement obtained by New Mexico Alliance for Life, “Abortions are not performed at the Carlsbad Medical Center and there are no plans to allow this procedure to be performed at the hospital or our affiliated clinics in the future.”
Last week, reports surfaced about the controversial abortionist from Utah, Dr. Leah Torres
taking up residency in Carlsbad NM. Torres was released from her employer in Utah last year after she allegedly made controversial claims in
deleted tweets.
“This is great news for the hundreds of citizens in Carlsbad and across New Mexico who have expressed serious concerns about Dr. Torres performing abortions in our state,” said Elisa Martinez Executive Director of New Mexico Alliance for Life. “If Dr. Torres is interested in leaving abortion work behind her, we encourage her to seek support from other former abortion workers like former Planned Parenthood Director, Abby Johnson and her
organization that will assist her in healing and leaving the abortion industry for good.”
Torres’ profile was recently removed from the Pecos Valley Physician Group’s
website after residents in the area and across New Mexico have expressed concerns to the hospital administrators. NMAFL has been working with a local group, the Eddy County Patriots, who are in communication with the hospital administrators.
“In my experience, the hospital administration has been very forthcoming and more than willing to share information in regard to their policies, procedures and specific beliefs,” said Michael Harris co-chairman of the Eddy County Patriots, who has been in contact with the Carlsbad Medical Center Administrators. “We are encouraged by their commitment to uphold the sanctity of life in their facilities and clinics, which is a reflection of the values of our community.”
Last week, in response to a now
defeated radical abortion up-to-birth bill in the New Mexico Legislature, the Eddy County Commission, where Carlsbad, NM is located, passed a
resolution declaring the county a “sanctuary for the unborn.” “Although the resolution is non-binding, it reflects the county algins its right to life stance with the citizens of Eddy County.”
In a stunning pro-life victory, earlier this month, eight New Mexico Democrats including many Catholic Senators defeated the “
most extreme” abortion bill in the nation, leaving abortion defenders in shock.
