He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Reference Proverbs 28:13 NKJV
What a concept. If we have secret sins, God will not bless our lives or our ministry. It’s as if He’s trying to get our attention to what we are trying to cover up.
David tried to cover his sin with Bathsheba and also Uriah, when he killed him. Although David thought he was successful in hiding that he slept with Bathsheba, his sin was not as secret as he thought. His servants that were involved in calling Bathsheba to David knew what he did. Joab, whom David convinced to put Uriah at the front of the battle, knew what he did. Most importantly, God knew what he did and revealed it to Nathan, whom he used to confront David.
What should this tell us? That our secret sins affect others. That we may try to cover them up, or hide them, however, others already know about them. We cannot get away from them being exposed. And in us committing them and trying to cover them up, we also maybe causing others to sin.
This should be a concern for us since, now, we essentially, have become a stumbling block to others. We have caused others to sin by involving them in either helping us to sin or by them covering up our sin. Remember what Jesus said about it is better for one to have a milestone tied to their neck and thrown into the sea than to cause another to sin (Luke 17:2)?
Let’s examine our lives now and repent, where we need to, before it’s too late.
