I just love the messages of Kathy Branzell of National Day of Prayer! WOW! Hows loving!!!
Friend — Greetings!
2 Corinthians 4:15-16 “For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” (emphasis mine) NASB I was recently on Faith radio with my friend Carmen LeBerge discussing Thanksgiving when she used the word, “Thanks-living.” That word and thought grabbed my attention as it really gets to the heart of being a Christ-follower and the foundation of our prayer life. Grace is a gift. You cannot earn grace. Ephesians 2:8 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God”. When someone gives you a gift you say, “Thank you!” and you are thankful. By grace we have been saved, separated, dedicated, and consecrated to God for His glory. We are holy, separated from sin, dedicated and devoted to Christ and His glory, and consecrated for His plans. God’s grace has called and equipped us for every circumstance, conversation and challenge knowing we are given the opportunity to spread His grace and glory more and more every day. Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Notice the past-tense of this verse, God created you and prepared good works beforehand. You are equipped, and all the ground work prepared, that is cause for great thanks to abound to the glory of God! In addition, we are strengthened by grace (2Tim.2:1), for steadfastness and to share in the suffering as a soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Tim 2:3), His grace is sufficient and is strong in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9), and Psalm 84:11 reminds us, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” While we are thankful for the people, protection and provision in our lives, we are thankful to the One who provides all of these and more. I pray that your heart is filled with thanks and overflowing as the Scriptures, and your lives, are filled with the many ways God gifts us with His grace and glory. We must respond with a life, not just a day of gratitude so that our “Thanks-living” testifies to more and more people our reason and reality of gratitude, and spreads the knowledge of the glory of the Lord across the earth. Happy Thanksgiving! In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
