In my study this morning:
In 3 John in the Bible is a short letter, with a long lesson..
It speaks about three men, and their characters… Gauis, Diotrephes and Demetrius…
Guaius, was given a shout out from John because of the love he showed others, how he loved the “Less thans” .. In our time … known as the lost and bound.
I’m not John, but He found it to be necessary to give a shout out to Gauis and Demetrius, which also became important enough to be in the Bible..so I’m doing the same on Facebook by mentioning Ministries I’m familiar with.. Not excluding anyone, I just know of these ministries. Everyone needs encouragement at times, and I pray this does..
But John also found it necessary to rebuke Diotrephes..
Gauis was faithful, walked in truth, and was spoken well of by those he showed the hospitality of the Lord.. He didn’t rely on the world for funding.. He was supported by funds of believers and other ministries that understood the concept of being a giver to Gods mission through him.
So I give a shout out to those ministries such Expect A Miracle Ministry, God’s Warehouse, Elevate Church, Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Foundations First Ministry, Souled out for Jesus, (Cornerstone Church in South Dakota) Freedom Worship Center in Los Lunas, For Gods Glory Alone Ministries…
Those are a few, and I’m sure there are many more, and we must as believers support ministries like that with funding and helping in the footwork… These are the MODERN DAY GAIUS OF ALBUQUERQUE!!!
John’s letter also reflects a man named “Demetrius” Who was spoken well of because he helped do the footwork along side GAUIS He was an Amour Bearer. He held up the arms of those that were doing God’s will, faithful, and walked in truth..
But let’s see how Johns letter describes DIOTREPHES…
3John Verse 9 “ I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, Will have nothing to do with us. 10.) So if I come, I we’ll call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so, And put them out of the church.”
Wow!!! How about that characteristic of a pastor for a church leader?
One who refuses to have anything to do with any other spiritual leaders or churches, he slanders those who oppose his way of leading, he refuses to welcome other gospel teachers because it will take away ”HIS LIMELIGHT “
So my question to all of us… which one are we???
Sins such as pride, jealousy, and slander are still present in the church today, and when a church leader or pastor is a DIOTREPHES, his actions will lead others to do the same because they will follow his lead. This characteristic encourages sin, and discourages right living, A true Christian leader is a servant not an autocrat!!!!
I close with this…
No wonder people of the world look at some churches as hypocritical, because they look the same as the world.. So they believe that anytime a ministry asks for financial support for God’s cause through them, they believe they are just trying to put money in their pockets..
Believe me there are many churches that do reflect the world and do put money in their pockets, but there are many ministries like the ones mentioned above that reach the lost with the love of Jesus.
I know there are many more that do God’s will, but those are the ones I’m familiar with..
My prayer today is that we will be those contributors that will support those ministries.
Or we can be those church goers that do nothing, and attend those churches that are do nothing’s, that pound there chests on an elevated pulpit..
