PRAY OVER THIS

“Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”

PONDER THIS

Honor the king. That’s what Peter said in verse 17. Whether it be a president, a governor, or an actual king, God’s people are called to honor their rulers and pray for them. If we would criticize less and pray more, God might change the hearts of our rulers. The Bible says, the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord and, as rivers of water, He turns it wherever He will. (See Proverbs 21:1.)

As Christian citizens, we are to be good citizens in this land, and that speaks of our character, our compliance, and our conduct. You are only one, but you are one. You can’t do everything, but you can something. God has called us to honor our leaders, even as we disagree with them. If necessary, we must obey God over them. In doing so, we honor God and trust that He has ultimate control over our days and our land.

  • What does it look like to “honor the king” in our present time?
  • Have you been guilty of criticizing more than honoring (and praying for) your leaders?

PRACTICE THIS

Block out time today to specifically pray for your leaders, both locally and nationally.
