Standby.
Today I went to the airport with a friend. We were invited to go to Wisconsin for a quick trip to encourage believers in their walk with the Lord. I will only be gone for a weekend. And I absolutely love talking about the Lord with others. It will be a great trip. But for some reason, it was difficult today to get on the plane. So before I boarded the plane I went for a brief walk around the terminal to hear from the Lord.
I noticed an empty bench away from everything. I went there to just “be.” As I did, an older lady sat across from me. Immediately the Spirit prompted me to talk with her. I asked her if I could pray for her. As a grandma she welcomed the prayer and asked if I would pray for her kids and one grand child. Absolutely. I prayed for her request. And then when I was finished, I gave her a Gospel wristband. And for the next couple of minutes I went through the Good News of Jesus Christ with her.
As I knew my time to board the plane approached, I said goodbye. She looked at me and said, “I will be praying for you.” I didn’t say anything to her. But just like that, I knew the Lord reminded me He was with me. Every step of the way. It’s hard to describe how the enemy plays mind games each one of us. You’re not a good…fill in the blank. I heard it today. All the lies the enemy loves to accuse and throw at me when I travel…
Church, please remember – Jesus knows exactly what we need and He sees our hearts and minds. And in those moments when we feel disheartened, we need to look to the Holy Spirit to help us. He was sent to comfort us. He was given to us to strengthen us. He was, as the Amplified Bible described, our “Standby.” In other words, the Holy Spirit is with us every step, every flight, every encounter, in everything. That’s why Jesus promised us and said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit – the Father will send – Him in My name—will teach you all things – and remind you of everything I have told you.” So let’s look to the Holy Spirit, who will help combat the lies from the enemy and speak truth into our lives.
