Let Me See Thy Glory – A =
Study of the Attributes of God
I conducted a seminar, was a very substantial fellow. While Mo did not quit=
e meet the requirements of a sumo wrestler, he came close enough to command=
a great deal of respect. For all of his size and strength, he had lost vir=
tually all of his front teeth. When Mo volunteered to provide special music=
for the seminar, my friend Dick Plowman, a former member of our church and=
prison ministry colleague, introduced Mo to the audience: =E2=80=9CNow, le=
t=E2=80=99s see, what number is Mo going to sing for us? Right! Anything he=
wants!=E2=80=9D
not wish to challenge or offend. Because of his strength, he could do anyt=
hing he wanted within the limits of the prison system. The power and raw ph=
ysical strength of an evil man is a frightening reality. The power of a goo=
d man is a comfort. But the other attributes a man possesses determines how=
his power is viewed.
forting as when seen in light of several of His other attributes. Two of th=
ese attributes are the =E2=80=9Cgoodness=E2=80=9D of God and the =E2=80=9Cw=
isdom=E2=80=9D of God. The God who is all-powerful is the same God who is g=
ood and wise; God=E2=80=99s power becomes a source of great comfort and enc=
ourage-ment to the Christian. This lesson considers the attribute of God=E2=
=80=99s goodness, and our following lesson will study the attribute of God=
=E2=80=99s wisdom. A brief review of some important truths about the goodne=
ss of God should help to show us the importance of studying God=E2=80=99s g=
oodness.
The Goodn=
ess of God is One of His Attributes
kindness is everlasting (Psalms 107:1).

hee, before the sons of men! (Psalms 31:19).
their God and David their king; and they will come trembling to the LORD a=
nd to His goodness in the last days (Hosea 3:5).
The Impor=
tance of the Goodness of God
foundational truth every Christian should embrace. Consider some of the rea=
sons God=E2=80=99s goodness is important to us.
in the opening chapters of the Bible. Repeatedly, God pronounced everything which He created =E2=80=9Cgood=
=E2=80=9D (see Genesis 1:4, 10, 18; 1 Timothy 4:4). In chapter 2, God saw that it was =E2=
=80=9Cnot good=E2=80=9D for Adam to be alone, and so He created=
a wife for him (2:18-25). In the garden of Eden, where God had placed Adam=
and Eve, there was =E2=80=9Cthe tree of the knowledge of good and evil.=
=E2=80=9D From the fruit of this one tree, the man and woman were =
forbidden to eat. We shall return to this matter of =E2=80=9Cgoodness=E2=80=
=9D in the garden, for it is a vitally important truth. Suffice to say the =
issues of =E2=80=9Cgoodness=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9Cevil=E2=80=9D are promine=
nt at the beginning of the Bible.
all of God=E2=80=99s attributes. Th=
e goodness of God may thus be viewed as one facet of His glorious nature an=
d character and also the overall summation of His nature and character.
=E2=80=9D And He said, =E2=80=9CI Myself will make all My goodness pass bef=
ore you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be g=
racious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will=
show compassion=E2=80=9D (Exodus 33:19; see also Exodus 34:5-7).
s you cannot have God without goodness. God alone is good:
ood besides Thee=E2=80=9D (Psalms 16:2).
hat good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?=E2=80=9D 17 And H=
e said to him, =E2=80=9CWhy are you asking Me about what is good? There is =
[only] One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the comman=
dments=E2=80=9D (=
Matthew 19:16-17).
said in his heart, =E2=80=9CThere is no God.=E2=80=9D They are corrupt, th=

on, or shifting shadow (James 1:17).

e and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly (=
Psalm 84:11).
=80=9CGod.=E2=80=9D Here is where our society, and especially our education=
al system, had better take note. You cannot teach values, you cannot teach =
morality, without teaching about God. =E2=80=9CBe ye holy,=E2=80=9D =
;God said, =E2=80=9Cfor I am holy=E2=80=9D (see 1 Peter 1:16; Leviticus 11:44f.=
).
decision as to how one can truly be good in God=E2=80=99s sight (See John 5:28-29; Romans 3:1-26; Titus 3:3-7).
we cannot recognize true goodness, for it cannot be understood apart from =
knowing God and seeing life from His perspective.&n=
bsp; This is precisely the point of Psalm 73 which we will now consider, for i=
t gives us a radically different definition of =E2=80=9Cgood.=E2=80=9D
Don’t give up. I know it feels like two seconds until too late but don’t gi=
ve up. Keep your mind on Me and the good things that have happened in the p=
ast. Read My word. Read it with expectation, thinking it will speak to exac=
tly where you are. It will speak to you beyond the natural. It is active an=
d alive and will build your faith, and will bring you peace of mind. This e=
nables you to hear what to do next. I love you and will never abandon you.
rd of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged =
sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It expose=
s our innermost thoughts and desires.Nothing in all creation is hidden from=
God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to=
whom we are accountable.” Bev Robinson

this from Rick Stambaugh, but like Rick I really don’t like the term “old =
fart” LOL LOL LOL! I like the term “fuddy duddy” This world makes me feel l=
ike an “old fuddy duddy”!!!!
from my beloved brother in Dallas & agree, I don’t necessarily don’t l=
ike the term Old Fart but I kinda like it after reading this; although I’d =
add:
* Old Farts get =
out of the car & pump the gas & wash the windows instead of watchin=
g their women do it.
=
* Old Farts still go out to get the paper in the morning.
=
* Old Farts don’t let their children=
go to the store in their pajamas.
rick
really liked the terminology “Old Farts” but this makes me feel better abou=
t it.
you ain’t one, I bet ya you know one!
this from an “Old Fart” friend of mine!
OLD FART PRIDE
ssing this on as I did not want to be the only old fart receiving it. Actua=
lly, it’s not a bad thing to be called, as you will see.
=E2=80=A2 Old Farts are easy to spot at sporting events; during=
the playing of the National Anthem. Old Farts remove their caps and stand =
at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believ=
e in them.
=E2=80=A2 Old Farts remember World War II, Pearl Harbour,Guadal=
canal, Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, T=
he Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Pe=
acekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam.
=E2=80=A2 If you bump into an Old Fart on the sidewalk he will =
apologize. If you pass an Old Fart on the street, he will nod or tip his ca=
p to a lady. Old Farts trust strangers and are courtly to women.
=E2=80=A2 Old Farts hold the door for the next person and alway=
s, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.
=E2=80=A2 Old Farts get embarrassed if someone curses in front =
of women and children and they don’t like any filth or dirty language on TV=
or in movies.
=E2=80=A2 Old Farts have moral courage and personal integrity. =
They seldom brag unless it’s about their children or grandchildren.
=E2=80=A2 It’s the Old Farts who know our great country is prot=
ected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military s=
erving their country.
ountry needs Old Farts with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, prid=
e in their country and decent values.
d them now more than ever.
