PRAY OVER THIS
“‘But there are some of you who do not believe.’ For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.”
PONDER THIS
Do you think Judas’ betrayal took Jesus by surprise? Do you think He said, “What a revolting development this is! Oh no, how could I have chosen Judas? Wow, look, here’s a man I was trusting, and now he’s betrayed me!” Oh no, friend. Jesus chose Judas with His eyes wide open. Jesus knew Judas never believed in Him. John 6:70-71 says, “Jesus answered them, ‘Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?’ He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.”
Peter endured. Judas didn’t. Why did Peter, who denied Jesus, endure to the end, and why did Judas not endure? Very simple. Peter had faith; Judas didn’t have any. Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that did not believe. Judas never believed. Simon Peter did. And those who endure to the end, those are they who are saved.
- Today we have discussed the way Peter and Judas were different. How were they similar? What might have led people to believe Judas would be the one to endure at the time?
- How does the difference between Peter and Judas help you further understand the distinguishing mark of those who endure to the end in following Jesus?
PRACTICE THIS
Write out a list comparing Peter and Judas. List how they were the same and the defining mark that made them different.
