(Albuquerque, NM) KRQE News 13 reports that on August 1, 2023, J. Charles Cox (34) and Jeremy Jones (30) chased a red pickup truck they mistook as their own stolen vehicle for many miles before blocking it in at a gas station in Albuquerque at Isleta and I-25.
Cox fired shots, hitting the truck, and was arrested by responding deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. Jones was also arrested after it was determined he had an active warrant issued for breaking and entering. The truck was not stolen. Thankfully, the driver of the truck was not injured.

My brother and sisters, as the old saying goes, there is no honor among thieves. And, as demonstrated in this situation, there is also an accompanying lack of wisdom! The fact of the matter is that Albuquerque has become a crime haven. Innocent persons going about their daily lives never know if they’ll inadvertently become a victim of road rage, mistaken identity or a target for car jacking or theft – or worse. The city seems to have multiple marijuana dispensaries in practically every neighborhood and this writer no longer feels comfortable even going to certain areas of the city.
I may say this often, but without apology, the truth is that we need to pray for our city, state and nation fervently. Jesus is, and will always be, the Answer! Government programs may help in some ways and in some places, but civil government is not a panacea for all of our troubles. The failure of so many to acknowledge and serve God is at the root of the problem, which opens spiritual doors for the evil one to step in to trick, steal, kill, destroy, lie and counterfeit the love of God. Scripture says that the world will know we are Christians by our (His) love.
Psalm 32:10 (NKJV)
“Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; [b]ut he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.”
John 10:10 (NKJV)
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
2 Corinthians 11:12-15 (Amplified Bible)
“But what I am doing I will keep doing, [for I am determined to keep this independence] in order to cut off the claim of those who want an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things they brag about. For such men are counterfeit [emphasis mine] apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, since Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. So it is no great surprise if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, but their end will correspond with their deeds.”
John 13:34-35 (ESV)
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are [M]y disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
