Amazing Grace is my all time favorite. I still weep when I hear it. It was sung at my Mom and Dads funeral and also at both grandpa and grandma Caraway’s services. By far Amazing Grace is the number one song at all the funerals I have officiated over the years.
Adelle M Banks of ChurchLeaders reports:
(RNS) — James Walvin, a former Church of England choirboy and professor of history at the University of York, doesn’t remember encountering “Amazing Grace,” in song or in his hymnal. It wasn’t until he traveled to the United States to research the history of slavery that he came upon the hymn introduced by John Newton, a former slave trader, in 1773.
Since then, Walvin, the author of the new book “Amazing Grace: A Cultural History of the Beloved Hymn,” has submerged himself in the hymn, which turns 250 this year. More Here
I CRIED WHEN I WATCHED THIS YOUNG GIRL SING AMAZING GRACE!
I posted this wonderful story in June of 2022 from CBN:
During a recent commercial break during the taping of an episode of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, an 11-year-old girl who was sitting in the audience wowed the show’s judges and won the hearts of audience members with her powerful rendition of the classic hymn “Amazing Grace.”
It’s a standing custom by the show’s producers to give some audience members an opportunity to sing during the show’s breaks for commercials.
