The New Mexico State Police (“NMSP”) is coordinating a “Gun Buyback to Promote Gun Safety and Reduce Gun Violence” this weekend in Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Española, New Mexico.
The events are happing tomorrow (Saturday), November 4, 2023, from 8:00 AM through 2:00 PM at the following locations:
- Expo New Mexico, Gate 6, 300 San Pedro, Albuquerque, New Mexico (located south of Lomas Boulevard NE);
- New Mexico Game and Fish, 2715 East Northrise Drive, Las Cruces, New Mexico; and
- Robert “Gordy” Vigil Regional Sportsplex, 2000 Industrial Park Road, Española, New Mexico.
According to NMSP Chief Troy Weisler, persons may anonymously turn in unwanted firearms and receive Visa and/or American Express gift cards in return. No questions will be asked about firearms ownership or origin.
These events are intended to prevent unwanted or unneeded weapons from causing harm or being used to commit acts of violence, in accordance with the New Mexico Department of Health’s (“NMDOH”) October 6, 2023 Amended Public Health Order (“PHO”).

According to the NMSP, a $200.00 Visa and/or American Express gift card will be provided for the surrender of a handgun and a $300.00 Visa and/or American Express gift card will be provided for the surrender of a rifle, shotgun or assault weapon. The firearm(s) may be functional or non-functional.
