The Jerusalem Post reports that British rock guitar legend Eric Clapton recently told an interviewer that “Israel is running the world; Israel is running the show.”

On May 22, 2024, Clapton was interviewed on YouTube by David Spuria, who hosts the popular Real Music Observer Show.  During the interview, Clapton criticized the recent U.S. Senate hearings in which university presidents were asked about antisemitism on campus, stating that “I was so enthused about what was going on at Columbia [University]…”.

During last week’s interview, Clapton also questioned the West’s support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.  Regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin, Clapton stated that “[Putin] always tells you what he intends to do, and he tells the truth.  So, he gives you plenty of warning.”

My brothers and sisters, here is the YouTube video of Clapton’s interview on the Real Music Observer Show (with the aforementioned discussion beginning at 19:35):

Incredibly, Clapton states in the video that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is one of my closest friends.”

Late last year (2023), Clapton released a song called “Voice of a Child” with an accompanying video of images of the destruction in the Gaza Strip, which completely ignored Hamas’ terrorist attack of October 7, 2023 – causing the start of the war.

Here is Clapton’s official YouTube video of “Voice of a Child” (with an age restriction caveat):

As a lifelong musician myself, I am struck by the number of highly successful musicians over the years who have, in the eyes of many, tarnished their musical careers through overt political statements and activities.

Clapton is one of the most beloved guitarists in modern history and has recorded music that will stand the test of time; however, it’s remarkable that he would choose to proudly state his support for Hamas terrorism, antisemitism, and Russia’s war against Ukraine (and the related threats against Western nations) – going so far as to call President Putin one of his “closest friends.”

Stating that President Putin says what he intends to do – with plenty of warning, does not automatically give those actions moral righteousness!  That sort of ‘logic’ could be used to mean that because Hitler stated his intentions, and made them clear through military orders and public speeches, that his deeds were somehow acceptable.

Whether one is legitimately concerned about the military-industrial complex and the use of war over the decades to bolster economies is one thing, but conflating such concern to justify the murder of the Ukrainian and Jewish people is intellectually dishonest, a sign of reasoning difficulties, and/or the result of spiritual deception by the evil one.

As followers of Christ, let’s pray for God to touch Eric Clapton’s heart.  No person is promised tomorrow.  Let’s also pray that those who may not yet have the spiritual eyes and ears to discern the truth would be touched by the Holy Spirit, would come to know and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, and would no longer be influenced by the evil one in their minds.  It is, in this writer’s view, most unfortunate that such a talented and influential musical artist has chosen to use his fame and access in this manner.

My brothers and sisters, we should humbly remember that we ALL (you, me and Clapton) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!  We all need to believe upon Jesus as our Lord and Savior, so that we would be saved and have eternal life.  There is no other way to come to the Father except through faith in Jesus – who is the way, the truth and the life!

Let’s remember what the bible has to say about our sin, salvation, earthly wisdom and the Jewish people:

Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”.

John 14:6 (NKJV)
“Jesus said to [Thomas], ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

Proverbs 3:7 (NKJV)
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; [f]ear the Lord and depart from evil.”

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.  As the Scriptures say, ‘He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.’”

Deuteronomy 7:6 (NKJV)
“For you [the Jews] are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”

Zechariah 2:8 (Amplified Bible)
“For thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘[a]fter glory He has sent Me against the nations which plunder you—for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye.’”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
