KOB 4 News (Albuquerque, NM) reports that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) has determined that New Mexico’s Salt Fire was human-caused, along with at least 16 other fires near Ruidoso, New Mexico. The fires occurred during the period of May 3, 2024 to June 18, 2024, and all were within a 25 square mile area.
The FBI, along with agents of the Bureau of Land Management (“BLM”), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (“ATF”), Bureau of Indian Affairs (“BIA”) and the U.S. Forest Service (“USFS”), began jointly investigating the spate of wildfires in early May 2024. The investigation intensified on or about June 18, 2024 when the Salt Fire was sparked.
The FBI has identified a man and a woman who are suspects in the fires, but arrests have not yet been made.

My brothers and sisters, it is not being alleged that the South Fork Fire near Ruidoso, which caused great damage and the loss of at least two lives, was directly tied to the couple being investigated by the FBI. Reports continue to indicate that the nearby South Fork Fire was lightning initiated.
Sadly, mentally disturbed persons sometimes start fires, and even return to the scene of the fires to observe the event. Hopefully the perpetrators of these arson fires will be prosecuted, as justice is clearly warranted. Given the number of fires allegedly started by the yet-to-be-identified couple, it is by the grace of God that more damage was not done and more persons were not killed.
The bible makes it clear that evildoers shall reap their reward:
Proverbs 21:15 (ESV)
“When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.”
The bible tells us that we are do justice, be kind and to walk humbly with God:
Micah 6:8 (ESV)
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
The bible also tells us that civil government is ordained of God – when it is not acting immorally and contrary to the word of God – and that resisting the ordinance of God (civil government) will bring judgment upon us:
Romans 13:1-3 (NKJV)
Submit to Government
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.”
