It seems there is a small conflict on exactly what to title this years Super Bowl which will be held on Sunday, February 2nd, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
Immediately following the NFL playoffs, it was noted and broadly proclaimed that this years bowl will be between teams in two different states that have legalized marijuana for personal use. That’s the Denver Broncos in Colorado and the Seattle Seahawks in Washington state.
I prefer to think of it as ‘The Christian Bowl’ since there is an interesting dichotomy in this year’s Super Bowl as both quarterback’s who will face off against each other are devout Christians. I’ll leave it to your decision whether the recent publicity concerning NFL star Tim Tebow is good or bad, right or wrong, but in its highlight, very few realize, he isn’t alone in his love for our Lord!
This year’s super bowl will be led by the brilliant NFL veteran of 16-years, Peyton Manning who was called the “most respected quarterback” in the NFL this year and arguably the “best ever” to play the game, who will be up against the young and talented Russel Wilson, who is only in his 2nd year in the NFL and who actually attended the “Payton Manning Passing Academy” when he was younger.
While Peyton Manning, (37), stands at 6’5″, Wilson, (25), measures in at 5’11”. But there are similarities also that really matter, they are both devoted Christians.
It’s not hard to figure out where Russel Wilson is regarding his faith, “Jesus is everything, He’ll meet you right where you’re at, he said in a Gospel Herald interview. Manning’s heart for the Lord is no less passionate, just more personal and less obvious in public, according to a Christian Post report.
“Some players get more vocal about it – the Reggie Whites, for example – and some point to Heaven after scoring a touchdown and praise God after games,” Peyton said in a book he co-wrote with his father, Archie, published back in 2001. “I have no problem with that. But I don’t do it, and don’t think it makes me any less a Christian.
Manning, who says he doesn’t pray for victory, but for the safety of the players on both sides, takes to heart some good advice given by his father, advice that many sports figures would do well to remember: “Dad says it can take twenty years to make a reputation, and five minutes to ruin it,” writes Manning in the book. I want my reputation to be able to make it through whatever five-minute crises I run into. And I’m a lot more comfortable knowing where my help is.”
As for me, I already have the inside scoop on who shall triumph in this year’s bowl, what ever you decide to call it. In recent conversations, when I queried, “who shall win this year’s bowl?”, I received the response, “the team with the most points my son!” (That’s His way of letting me know I shouldn’t be off to Vegas to bet on it!!!) LOL
