Too many bad apples…….
It is way, way beyond time for leadership changes in the Albuquerque government. Why is APD having so many problems? The Mayor does nothing that I can see to hold the Police Chief accountable for the messes that have occurred. The City Council seems powerless. I respect our officers so very much. They need new leadership badly. The bad officers are tarnishing the department. Someone needs to step up to the plate and shake things up for the good!
It seems to me that the DWI scandal is kind of like Albuquerque’s own Watergate! Will we ever know the truth? Does it really go back decades, or more?
This whole thing is tarnishing the department and hurting the many good officers we have. Someone needs to stand up for our good officers and get rid of the bad apples. Way beyond time for leadership changes. Why is such dysfunction allowed?
The Albuquerque Police Department is full of scandals. The DWI scandal could be one of the biggest law enforcement scandals in the history of New Mexico.
The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that a civil rights group is suing the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, its police department and top officials on behalf of a man who was among those arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and allegedly forced to pay bribes to get the charges dropped.
The DWI scandal has already mired the police department in New Mexico’s largest city in a federal investigation as well as an internal inquiry. One commander has been fired, several others have resigned and dozens of cases have been dismissed.
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico filed the lawsuit late Monday in state district court. It alleges that Police Chief Harold Medina was aware of an agreement between some officers assigned to the DWI Unit and a local attorney’s office to work together to get cases dismissed in exchange for payment.

Do I need to add that the Albuquerque Police Department is very, very understaffed? This has been ongoing for years! I know this is now a problem all over America, but it must be a focus of city leadership to up the number of police officers who patrol our streets and neighborhoods.
There is no crime prevention in Albuquerque. We never, ever see patrol cars in our area. Now crime has reached our neighborhood in Taylor Ranch, see picture above, and it is spreading like wildfire. Some never call the police anymore because it takes too long for them to respond. Sometimes you have to hang up on 911 because you get no answer after three (3) minutes!
We and some of our friends do not call the police anymore when we hear gunfire – bad response time. We are in bad shape here in Albuquerque. It’s like violent crimes are being normalized. Kids with guns in Albuquerque
New Mexico ranks third in drunk driving deaths
Now APD has a sex crime on its hands……..
An Albuquerque police officer is on leave after a grand jury indicted him on some very serious charges.
Officer Liam King is accused of soliciting sexual favors from a woman while on duty this past summer. King is facing multiple charges, including false imprisonment and criminal sexual contact. More Here
