The U.S. vs The Bill of Rights

It seems we are in the 12th round of a blow by blow contest between the US government and the Bill of Rights. How much more can the Bill of Rights take before it is down for the count? And why are Americans not standing in her corner? Safety?

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety

deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Ben Franklin

The Supreme Court ruled on 2/25 from a 2009 California case that “Police officers may enter and search a home without a warrant as long as one occupant consents, even if another resident has previously objected” giving “authorities more leeway to search homes without obtaining a warrant, even when there is no emergency.”[1]

“Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan joined Ginsburg in dissent and faulted the court for retreating from the warrant rule.

“Instead of adhering to the warrant requirement, today’s decision tells the police they may dodge it,” Ginsburg said.”[2]

Whether you agree with this ruling with the case or not, it is one step closer to a 1984 type society.

Even Obamacare is jumping into the ring to deliver some blows as well. Under the Affordable Care Act HRSA-12-156 government officials will have the authority to conduct home inspections for families that fall under a “high-risk” category.[3]

Some of the categories include:

e) Eligible families that have a history of substance abuse or need substance abuse treatment (This does exclude legal or prescribed drugs)

f) Eligible families that have users of tobacco products in the home (According to Lung.org that is around “21 million, or 35 percent of, children live in homes where residents or visitors smoke in the home on a regular basis.”[4])

g) Eligible families that are or have children with low student achievement. (By who’s standards?)

i) Eligible families who, or that include individuals who, are serving or formerly served in the Armed Forces, including such families that have members of the Armed Forces who have had multiple deployments outside of the United States.

Under these definitions this would include most of Americans. There seems to be a pattern developing and that is that the freedom of the individual is under attack.
