New Mexico Election Results: Former State Democratic Party Chairman Javier Gonzales Elected Mayor Of Santa Fe

Santa Fe, NM has a new Mayor, Javier Gonzales, former state Democratic Party chairman, who blew away all others. Gonzales took 43 percent of the vote. Gonzales defeated City Councilors Bill Dimas and Patti Bushee, they both will retain their council seats. In Rio Rancho Greggory Hull and Mike Williams will face off in the mayoral race because neither received  the required 50% of the vote. The other candidates running for Mayor of Rio Rancho were, Former Mayor Jim Owen and R. Morgan Brandon. The runoff election for Mayor in Rio Rancho could be on April 15th, but that will have to be set by the City Council.

Also in Santa Fe, voters approved an amendment to the city charter called the  ‘strong mayor’ proposal to make the Mayor’s job full time with more power and responsibility.

Rio Rancho City Council: Dist. 5 Tim Crum lost, There will be a runoff between Shelby Smith and Thomas Buckner. Dist. 3 incumbent Tamara Buckner lost to Cheryl Ann Everett and in Dist. 2 Dawnn Robinson defeated Darlene Collins and Sandra Jean Atwood.

Corrales: Scott Kominiak won the Mayor’s job.

Bernalillo:  Mayor Jack Torres ran unopposed.

Tijeras: Town Council incumbent Tina King was defeated by one vote by Jake Burton.

Edgewood:  Councilors Chuck Ring and Rita Loy Simmons won reelection. Voters alos approved $67,000 for an animal control shelter and $3 million for road improvements.

Estancia: Ted Helsey beat Anthony Master to be the next Mayor.

Moriarty: Kimberly Garcia and Larry Gallant won seats on the Council.
