(Austin, TX) — A new lawsuit is being filed over Texas’ new abortion law. The Center for Reproductive Rights and Whole Woman’s Health asked an Austin federal judge to keep the state from requiring clinics to have the same standards as surgical centers. The groups say the requirement would leave “fewer than ten” abortion clinics open. Officials with Whole Woman’s Health say they had to close two clinics in the Rio Grande Valley last month due to the requirement. They had previously told “The Dallas Morning News” the clinics were closed due to part of the law requiring doctors to have admitting privileges at hospitals. The new suit comes a week after an appeals court ruled the admitting privileges part of the law was constitutional.
