Capital Prayer Alert

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol’s thoughts with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. — Gary

These are solemn days for the sliver of democracy in the Middle East, our strong ally Israel. In the last two weeks Israel has marked both Holocaust Remembrance Day and Israel’s Independence Day. One day is designed to look back at the loss of millions of Jews in World War II with a renewed commitment that such a thing will never happen again. From this vantage point the horror of the extermination of one-third of the world’s Jews is hard to fathom and the commitment of the world that such a thing could not, would not happen again seems very basic.

The other day marks a celebration of the 20th century birth of a sovereign nation which the Jewish people could call home after two thousand years in exile from the land of their birth. Together these days seem to underscore the need for the world to be vigilant. The naivete, or blindness, in recognizing the truth about the madman Hitler could never happen again in a civilized world, or so the thinking goes.

And yet, in 2014, not even close to a century later, the Middle East is a boiling cauldron of hate. Iran is closer than ever to being a nuclear power, and its leaders have publicly promised to destroy Israel. In recent weeks the U.S.-led effort at peace talks in the region has fallen apart. Most ominously, the leaders of the Palestinian Authority have joined forces with the known terrorist organization Hamas.

Israel is increasingly unsure of the stated U.S. commitment to its security and for good reason. Too often in recent years the words voiced by the administration have not been matched by actions. Instead, desperate behind the scenes efforts to achieve a short-term “peace” have left the impression that Israel should cave no matter the price in the long run.

Please pray for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he weighs Israel’s security and future in a region growing more hostile by the day. Ask God to give him wisdom, insight and the leadership skills needed in this time of growing crises. Pray to our Heavenly Father, petitioning Him to open the eyes of President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry before Iran reaches a nuclear threshold.

And, pray for Jews throughout the Middle East and Europe who are seeing a rise in anti-Semitism and are being driven out of countries they have called home for decades. Ask God to turn back this growing wave of hate.

Do you remember the malaise of the Carter years? Are you having deja vu? As you read news stories about record low labor force participation of segments of society and the disconnect many feel from their government, are you worried about the country’s future?

Do you feel too many people have just checked out of the political process, leaving it to diehard activists on each side? Are you tired of the overheated rhetoric and vitriol with folks being labeled “racists,” “terrorists,” “nut jobs” and the like?

If so, please join me in prayer for our country, its future and the next generation of leaders who will inherit this volatile mix. The country seems discouraged, disconnected and alienated from its elected leaders. Ask God to raise up leaders who will give voice to our potential, who will remind us of our history and our innate goodness as a people. Ask Him to embolden leaders who would unite us, not divide us.

Pray that God will touch the hearts of those who hear this message prompting them to give the electoral process a chance to change the trajectory of the country for our children and grandchildren.

Thank you for your commitment to pray for our country and Gary’s work in Washington.

After serving in the United States Navy for 22 years I retired from the service late in 1991. Having always loved the southwest, shortly after retiring, I moved to the Albuquerque area where I have resided since. Initially I worked as a contractor for approximately 6 years doing cable construction work. That becoming a little dangerous, at an elevated age, I moved into the retail store management environment managing convenience stores for roughly 16 years. With several disabilities, I am now fully retired and am getting more involved with helping Pastor Dewey & Pastor Paul with their operations at FGGAM which pleases my heart greatly as it truly is - "For God's Glory Alone". I met my precious wife Sandy here in Albuquerque and we have been extremely happily married for 18 years and I am the very proud father to Sandy's wonderful children, Tiana, our daughter, Ryan & Ross, our two sons, and proud grandparents to 5 wonderful grandchildren. We attend Christ Full Deliverance Ministries in Rio Rancho which is lead by Pastor's Marty & Paulette Cooper along with Elder Mable Lopez as regular members. Most of my time is now spent split between my family, my church & helping the Pastors by writing here on the FGGAM website and doing everything I can to support this fantastic ministry in the service of our Lord. Praise to GOD & GOD Bless to ALL! UPDATED 2021: Rick and Sandy moved to Florida a few years ago. We adore them and we pray for Rick as he misses Sandy so very, very much!
