The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) which has taken control of large swaths of Iraqi and Syrian territory has reportedly moved forces to threaten Jordan as well, prompting Jordan’s Armed Forces to deploy forces to the border region, even as troops loyal to the Baghdad regime have melted away from their posts on the Iraqi side of the border and ISIL has reportedly activated sleeper cells inside Jordan to prepare for an invasion. “The situation in Iraq and in particular on our eastern border with this country is a source of concern for everyone,” MP Bassam Manaseer said. Meanwhile, the number of refugees fleeing into Jordan from Syria has increased sharply in recent days as ISIL pushes its attacks in that country.
