UN Announces Independent Commission to Investigate Gaza War

Ban (Illustrative)UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon addressed the Security Council Tuesday on the subject of the recent war between Israel and terrorist groups based in the Gaza Strip. During his remarks, Ban declared his intention to appoint a team which will conduct an independent investigation of the war, specifically damage done to UN facilities in the fighting and reports that UN schools and other buildings were used to store rockets and launch attacks against Israeli civilians. Reiterating earlier comments to the press, Ban insisted that he “fully understands the security threat to Israel from rockets above and tunnels below.  At the same time, the scale of the destruction in Gaza has left deep questions about proportionality and the need for accountability.” Read More
