Capital Prayer Alert

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol’s thoughts with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. — Gary

The voters have spoken. Though President Obama seems to be in denial about the election results, there is no doubt that the landscape in Washington is changing. The outcome of the election puts both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Republican hands with the swearing in of the new Congress in January.

The Republicans will control the Senate and with that comes a wave of changes on that side of Capitol Hill. Committees now chaired by liberals will be led, in most cases, by conservatives. Republicans will hold the majority of seats on each committee and control the majority of staff. Most importantly, the GOP will set the agenda on the Senate floor.

The Republican wave was also felt in the House of Representatives and in state legislatures across the country. The changing political dynamic is capturing headlines, but behind each win or loss is a personal story that will be played out in the weeks ahead.

Pray for those who have just been elected to positions of prominence, some for the first time and others moving up from local or state office. Each ran on a set of issues and promises to their constituents. Those commitments will now come under greater scrutiny, and pressure will be brought to bear to ease or abandon them.

Ask God to give these men and women the strength to stand boldly for their promises. Pray that they would have the wisdom to make the right decisions to implement their agenda. Ask God to regularly prompt them to remember their roots, the voters who elected them and the oath they will take to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

On a more personal note, now is the time when newly elected Members of Congress come to Washington for briefings and leadership elections, to select office staff and space, homes, places of worship and schools for their families, and to make a myriad of other decisions. Demands on their time and attention will rival those of tough campaign days.

Local media want interviews, national media are attempting to read where the new Congress is headed and what its relationship will be with the president as his term enters its final two years. Words must be weighed, decisions must be made quickly and families will need to adjust to a totally new normal.

Ask God to give these men and women a sense of peace in the midst of what must seem a tumultuous period. Pray that their priorities would remain true to their principles. Ask our Heavenly Father to draw believers to Him and to use men and women of faith as a beacon of light in their new area of service.

Pray for their families whose lives are being uprooted. Friends and classmates are being left behind, and their new home, place of worship, school and friends are not yet in focus. Keep their families strong and dependent on our Heavenly Father.

Finally, pray for our country as we enter an unsettled period when the Constitution will be challenged. The lines of authority drawn by the founders for our three co-equal branches of government are being tested and in some cases almost ignored. Ask God for His hand of protection as we wade through unknown waters.

After serving in the United States Navy for 22 years I retired from the service late in 1991. Having always loved the southwest, shortly after retiring, I moved to the Albuquerque area where I have resided since. Initially I worked as a contractor for approximately 6 years doing cable construction work. That becoming a little dangerous, at an elevated age, I moved into the retail store management environment managing convenience stores for roughly 16 years. With several disabilities, I am now fully retired and am getting more involved with helping Pastor Dewey & Pastor Paul with their operations at FGGAM which pleases my heart greatly as it truly is - "For God's Glory Alone". I met my precious wife Sandy here in Albuquerque and we have been extremely happily married for 18 years and I am the very proud father to Sandy's wonderful children, Tiana, our daughter, Ryan & Ross, our two sons, and proud grandparents to 5 wonderful grandchildren. We attend Christ Full Deliverance Ministries in Rio Rancho which is lead by Pastor's Marty & Paulette Cooper along with Elder Mable Lopez as regular members. Most of my time is now spent split between my family, my church & helping the Pastors by writing here on the FGGAM website and doing everything I can to support this fantastic ministry in the service of our Lord. Praise to GOD & GOD Bless to ALL! UPDATED 2021: Rick and Sandy moved to Florida a few years ago. We adore them and we pray for Rick as he misses Sandy so very, very much!
