Carol’s Mom Goes Home To The Lord
Carol’s mom, Jean Hoke, has passed away. She loved the Lord. We know she has gone on to her new home in Heaven, where a place filled with the glory of God, free of anxiety, pain and suffering, has been lovingly prepared for her.
Over her 91 years, Jean was a loving wife and mother. Like so many of the “Greatest Generation,” she was a patriot, a conservative and a bold defender of her faith. We will miss her terribly, but we take comfort in knowing we will see her again.
Carol and I, and our extended family, covet your prayers in the days ahead as we say goodbye to Mom Hoke.
Iran Threatens White House & Israel
The Daily Caller reports that General Mohammad Naghdi, commander of Iran’s Basij forces, said the following this week:
“Today there is no mandate to end our fight because Iran’s greatness in the region and the repeated losses by the Zionists and America are the proof of our fight up to today. Our ideal is not [nuclear] centrifuges but the destruction of the White House and the annihilation of Zionism [Israel].”
Clearly, this Iranian general (and likely many others) has watched events in Iraq and Afghanistan and concluded that we lost, they won. His next sentence promising a second Holocaust needs no explanation.
What does demand an explanation is why the Obama Administration continues negotiating with a regime that aspires to blow up the White House and destroy Israel.
Let me remind you about some of the rhetoric that is coming out of Tehran. Last month, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general said that Obama’s warnings about a “military option” were just “an outdated bluff.” In November, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, released a nine-point plan to eliminate the state of Israel.
My friends, please do not fall for the mistaken belief that our policies are to blame or that all would be well in the world if only we stopped supporting Israel. Radical Islam is at war with the West. And in the fevered brows of the militant Islamists, America, the leader of the free world, is the “great Satan.”
Americans were their targets in the 1979 embassy siege. Our Marines were their targets in the Beirut barracks bombing. All of us were their targets on 9/11. And America remains radical Islam’s ultimate target.
Attkisson v. Holder
Investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson has filed a $35 million lawsuit against the Justice Department. As you may remember, while a reporter for CBS News Attkisson was one of the few mainstream media journalists willing to seriously challenge the administration on Operation Fast and Furious and Benghazi. Her willingness to ruffle feathers and question the official line eventually led to her leaving CBS.
In her lawsuit, Attkisson claims that government operatives hacked her computers and spied on her work between 2011 and 2013. Her suspicions seem to be well founded. CBS News conducted its own forensic analysis. It determined that her computers were in fact “accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012.”
Given what we have seen from the IRS Tea Party scandal, the seizure of records of 100 Associated Press phone lines and the treatment of reporters James Rosen and James Risen, her allegations are entirely believable. Moreover, Attkisson isn’t the only reporter who has issues with this administration.
Former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson said a year ago, “It is the most secretive White House that I have ever been involved in covering.” CBS anchor Bob Schieffer described the Obama Administration as “most manipulative and secretive administration I’ve covered.” USA Today’s Susan Page went further, saying in October, “This administration has been . . . more dangerous to the press, really, than any administration in American history.”
Obamacare Hits Harvard
I’ve been a critic of Obamacare since its inception. Like many, I warned that it was sold on false promises, and that government mandates would only make things worse and more expensive. I believe it should be repealed.
But while I know you’re not supposed to take joy in the suffering of others, I’m finding it difficult to sympathize with some Harvard University faculty members. It seems they are none too pleased with recent changes to the university’s health care plans — changes mandated by Obamacare, which some of them helped to create. You can read more here.
A wise man by the name of Irving Kristol once said that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality. This “mugging” of some Harvard professors could be a wake-up call. I can dream, can’t I?
