I’m a fixer by my worldly nature.
When my kids came to me with a boo boo, I kissed it to make it all better. If my husband asked for something, I wanted to make it happen for him.
I prefer to have a plan of action for life’s situations, implement the plan, then see the desired result of my plan.
That’s called CONTROL. In some aspects, being a fixer is being a controller.
I have had to go through the school of hard knocks to realize that controlling my circumstances is merely an illusion. The only thing I have control over is my response to a situation.
These past few weeks, precious dear friends have called, texted, or emailed me regarding troublesome and serious circumstances in their lives. These issues are way beyond my control and they are way beyond their scope of fixing it.
They can’t fix it. I can’t fix it. Are we without hope. Absolutely not!
Thank God, we have a place to go. But where’s that?
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV)
First, we have a High Priest, Jesus Christ. If we profess Him as our Lord and Savior, then we must hold on firmly to the faith that we have first professed. The enemy of our soul wants to steal our faith. However, we are instructed to hold onto it firmly. Jesus prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail. So we must first hold onto the faith we first confessed we have in Jesus.
Second, Jesus understands. He can empathize with everything we go through. He experienced the same weaknesses and temptations we do. He has been tempted in every way we are, but yet He remained pure. He relates to us and we can share with Him what bothers us most.
Lastly, because we have Jesus the High Priest in whom we’ve placed our faith and He relates to our every need, then we can approach the throne of God our Father—with boldness and with confidence.
It is at the throne of God we will find mercy and grace to help us in our time of need. Our Father has all the answers and solutions to everything we face.
My friend, I can pray with you and walk with you into the throne room, but I can’t fix it. Only through our faith in Jesus Christ and by boldly and confidently approaching the throne of our Father, will we find the help each of us needs.
