North Carolina’s lawmakers spent the last evening of the session approving new abortion regulations and sweeping changes to when and how people can vote.
The Republican-backed bills were controversial and evoked passionate debate into Thursday night.
Proponents of the new abortion rules say they make the procedure safer, but critics say they restrict the ability of women to have abortions by forcing most clinics to close.
