Finally, a glimpse of political sense

Abolish the IRS. That’s what Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz is saying. Abolish the IRS. This is far and away the best idea that a credible politician has come up with in a long time. Abolish the IRS. The IRS is an unconstitutional agency that has assumed the authority and power of what amounts to secret police in countries that whip their people into submission using fear and intimidation. IRS is a so-called federal agency that has the extra-constitutional authority where the individual–you the taxpayer–is guilty until proven innocent. It has the power to seize your property, take your money from your bank account, and ruin your life. Cruz wants to abolish the IRS. Good start!

Cruz addressed the annual 2014 Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) with a bundle of good ideas to set the country back on the right track. Included in them were repealing socialist healthcare, auditing the Federal Reserve and ending the massive transfer of wealth imbedded in the White House programs and policies. Cruz jokingly told the CPAC crowd, “By virtue of your being here today, tomorrow each and every one of you is going to be audited by the IRS.” Trouble is, it is not out of the context of truth that very harassment could happen. It has happened in other ways and in other venues. For Cruz to make this the centerpiece of his political aspirations takes leadership and courage.

Think about the word “corruption.” One of its meanings: “dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power.” The occupant of the Oval Office told Bill O’Reilly during an interview on Super Bowl Sunday that “there was not even a smidgen of corruption” in his administration regarding the IRS. Cruz said that the word doesn’t mean what the US president must think it means. Over 200 organizations were prevented by the IRS from non profit status for their conservative missions. The IRS official in charge of that, Lois Lerner, once again Tuesday invoked the 5th Amendment in testimony before the House Oversight Committee for fear of self incrimination–maybe White House incrimination.

Cruz should be applauded for his stance. We need elected officials that make definitive statements that are understandable and can be held accountable. As is written in James 5:12, “But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yes be yes and your no, no, lest you fall into condemnation.” Cruz offered a glimpse of political sense. Now I know all the “in the know” people are going to come out of the woodwork with all sorts of reasons why Cruz is a bad idea. But you know something? We have to start somewhere. Keep in mind that scandal-ridden heavyweight Chris Christie got a standing ovation at CPAC.
