FGGAM EXCLUSIVE: Since Wilkins Broadcasting purchased KKIM am 1000 Christian radio for New Mexico from American General Media, Hall-of-Fame News Broadcaster Frank Haley has left KKIM to become the morning newsman at AM730 KDAZ. Pastor Mark Tross who was host of two KKIM weekend programs , ‘New Mexico News and Views’ and ‘Ask The Pastor’, (Ask The Pastor was canceled after being on KKIM over 40 years) has left for KKNS 1310AM. Having at one time managed KKIM and listening to it for several years, it really helped me become a better man of God, it is sad to see the local aspect of the station losing out in this sale. Absentee ownership does not always work, local is best. If you are going to have a station or stations and run them from out-of-state, have people here in Albuquerque involved in the Christian community. Let’s take a brief look at secular radio in Albuquerque for a moment: The once “Flame thrower” in the market 770 KOB. Since Cumulus Media bought KOB from Citadel, they have lost much of their Citadel management team and longtime New Mexico radio broadcaster Milt McConnell. 770 has nose dived in the ratings and is just not what it once was. But as I say, you can own a radio station in Albuquerque and have your headquarters elsewhere, but you must have solid local people with local programming and a strong commitment to the betterment of New Mexico. It saddens me to share with you that R.C. Sproul has left KKIM. R.C. Sproul had the 3pm slot for years on KKIM and was one of the most popular programs ever on AM 1000. The sad news here is that many of the KKIM listeners who listed to R.C. do not have a computer, no internet, no modern technology, many are in nursing homes, many live in the rural areas of New Mexico, I know, during my time at KKIM I took calls and letters from these folks. One other top program left KKIM about a month ago, ‘Nuggets of Truth’ with Pastor Don Kimbro. Pastor Don anchored the 7:30am slot for years on KKIM. Thankfully Pastor Don has found a home here at FGGAM! Picture below is of Pastor Don and his lovely angel Dorothy.

Radio Christian radio for New Mexico in Albuquerque from American General Media to Nationwide Christian Brodacster, Wilkins Broadcasting continues to have a fallout. We have told you about Hall-Of-Fame Broadcaster Frank Haley not being retained by Wilkins, and Pastor Mark Tross moving to KKNS as the programs that Pastor Mark hosted “Ask the Pastor” and “New Mexico News and Views” have been cancelled by Wilkins.
