COLUMBIA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH STUDY ON GAMBLING ATTACK ON PUBLIC HEALTH
The Columbia School of Public Health published a major national story today about the massive public health impacts of government-sponsored casinos and lotteries. It is titled “Gambling with America’s Health—The Public Health Costs of Legal Gambling.

For much of the last twenty-five years, most in the public health community in America have been willfully silent on this issue, but recently public health professionals have begun to look beyond treating their patients, and have begun to speak out against government sponsored gambling. Efforts by the Public Health Advocacy Institute and now the Columbia School of Public Health have started to drop the “gambling neutral” stance of their colleagues, and have identified government sponsored gambling as the problem, instead of laying all the blame on the neurological deficiencies of “problem gamblers.”
