I want to share this write up in the Baptist New Mexican about Garland. It was published on Oct. 26th of 2013.
A New Mexico Baptist pastor was one of the New Mexico Martin Luther King Jr. Commission’s six commissioners who was in the nation’s capital Aug. 28 for activities related to the anniversary of the historic march on Washington that was led by the late civil rights leader 50 years ago.
Garland Moore, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan, which is located next to Grants, was appointed to the commission by New Mexico Speaker of the House W. Ken Martinez in May, according to the commission’s executive secretary, Cheryl Yazzie. Moore also participated in workshops during the four days the group was in Washington.
“The mission for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is to promote cultural awareness and human rights through Dr. King’s life philosophy and six principles of nonviolent social action to all peoples of New Mexico,” says the commission’s website.
One week later Moore was part of the group of ministry and marketplace leaders, intercessors, youths and children who met with Gov. Susana Martinez for the Statewide Prayer Summit in the Capitol Rotunda in Santa Fe.
