Sandoval County Sheriff Doug Wood said that it was “with the deepest regret that at 4:43 p.m. today, our brother and fellow officer Sgt. Robert Baron succumbed to his injuries.”
“Robert was not only one of my deputies, he was a husband, father, brother and son as well as a member our law enforcement family and my friend,” read Wood’s statement, recited by county public information officer Sidney Hill.
The statement continued with a thanks to “doctors and hospital staff who worked so gallantly to save Robert’s life.”

Let us pray for the family, his wife Krysia and 10 year old son Colter and the rest of the family and fellow officers. Our heart breaks at this news.

This is how we reported the news of the accident this morning here at FGGAM:

Sandoval County deputy 2Let us come together and pray for Sandoval County New Mexico Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Robert Baron who is in critical condition. Sgt. Baron is in a medically induced coma after he was hit by a car yesterday while investigating a storm related car wreck on I-25 near San Felipe Pueblo. The last report we have from the Albuquerque Journal, is that he is in the neurological intensive care unit at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Sgt. Baron’s wife is also a law enforcement officer with the U.S. Forest Service and they have a 10 year old son. Let us be in prayer for complete healing for Sgt. Baron, a Christmas miracle, in Jesus name, Amen!

The car that hit Sgt. Baron skidded off the icy road and struck him as he was investigating an accident scene. The driver of that car was not injured and no charges have been filed. The investigation continues.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that Sgt. Baron was promoted to his present position in the Sheriff’s Department, just last month.

Let us be in constant prayer for Sgt. Baron’s wife, 10 year old son, the entire family and fellow officers.
